Ian startled a little group of baby cottontail bunnies while clearing a few weeds. One bunny ran for the road and met an untimely end so we gathered up the other three to same them from a similar fate. Of course, we then had to figure out what to do with three little bunnies! I called an animal rescue group and was directed to their "bunny lady" who told me to find a good brush or wood pile near open grass and some woods. Since this pretty much describes our backyard, we didn't have to go very far. Bunnies apparently aren't the greatest mothers so she said at the almost 4 ounces that these were, they were probably on their own and would do fine in the wilds of our yard.
Here are the three little bunnies huddled in a blanket inside a cardboard box waiting for Ian to finish mowing the backyard so we could release them
Aiden helped carry them out to the woodpile at the edge of the yard
After Ian put the blanket out on the ground, they just sat there for a few hours (which Aiden was thrilled with!)
The bunnies did eventually move into the wood pile and seem to be happy little campers! We'll keep our eyes open for them but we're hopeful they'll enjoy life in the woods behind our house.
After releasing the bunnies, it was party time! I got this cute little onesie for Devin with a number 1 on it. He was very excited to be wearing it!

we uncovered some bunny babies while clearing out our poison ivy {good times!} unfortunately ours were a bit younger and the animal shelter place wasn't open that day and they didn't last the night. sad. but that's the day our kids really learned about the Resurrection.
