What do you mean by, "It's September"???

I have no idea where August went. I swear, it was just here! However, my calendar doesn't lie and apparently August slipped by us before we even knew what had happened.

So, here's the breakdown of our crazy, busy month! We made a few weekend trips in the region and saw some interesting things. We really love the White River junction on the border of Vermont and New Hampshire and made our second pilgrimage of the summer there. On our drive up, we stopped in Salem, NH, to visit "America's Stonehenge." While it's not quite as impressive as the real Stonehenge, it is worth a visit and the kids enjoyed the walking around and all the rocks.

America's Stonehenge is also home to an alpaca farm. Totally weird but neat to see!

We participated in an "archeolgy dig" and found a few stones but no arrowheads.

And Devin made friends with a moose (thank goodness it wasn't life-sized)!

After our stop at Stonehenge, we headed for the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) in Quechee, VT. VINS is a refuge and educational facility for wild birds of all kinds. They mostly care for raptors but will care for any wild bird brought to them. We love stopping by here and seeing the birds up close.

Devin was a bit sleepy when we started and hung out in the carrier for the first bit. (Mom got this for us at a Goodwill in her area and shipped it to us. Totally worth the $5 purchase price and shipping!)

After checking out some wild-eyed birds, we caught our second wind!

We headed out on one of the great walking trails on the VINS property and enjoyed a nice afternoon as a family.


The week before school we heaed down the Cape to Lieutenant Island in Wellfleet for some sun, sand, and surf. But you'll have to check back tomorrow for that post. This one has gone on far too long already!
