Independence Day on the Fly

Monday was Independence Day and Boston does the 4th in serious fashion. Last year we went in a little early, parked near Ian's office, and then picked a spot along the Charles River for the fireworks. This year, we were coming off a short quarantine because Aiden picked up a rash that looked like chicken pox (hard to diagnose after being vaccinated) and spend most of the day with Ian's parents and cousins who just came back to the states from living in Guinea, Africa for over a decade. Around 9:00 PM we were headed home but Aiden was very upset at the idea of missing the fireworks. So, we hurried to the "T" station and headed into Boston.

Waiting for the train to come around the curve.

Enjoying the ride into town.

We made it to the Longfellow Bridge about 10 minutes into the show because of delayed trains, but it was a good *show!

*I have to mention that I'm super impressed with the new camera as compared to last year's shots of the same thing!

Once the show was over, we headed over the bridge to Ian's office and I got some good shots of happenings on the river. This one is my favorite, though. The Prudential Building (known as the "Prue" around here) was specially lit for the holiday.

The kids didn't even make it over the bridge and were out cold before getting to Ian's office where we waited for the crowds to dissipate.

It was a good night but a 1:30 AM bedtime was rough on everyone. It took several days for the kids to work out the fatigue-inducing night!
