First Night 2011

In Boston, New Year's Eve is called "First Night." We did our very best at helping the city ring in 2012 by heading in for the "family" fireworks display that is put on over the Common after the parade. For some reason, as we were getting off the train at 7:00, the fireworks were already being shot off and we missed almost the entire show. In previous years, we've made it to the Common by 7:15 and waiting for 15-30 minutes before the fireworks started. So we don't know what happened with the timing this year. But at least Aiden got to see a few fireworks.

Here we are waiting for the train on the platform (Aiden was very concerned Devin was going to jump in front of the train).

And riding in on the train. The kids really love riding the subway even though Aiden looks less than enthused.

Checking out the huge Christmas tree on the Common.

One of the cool ice sculptures by the Frog Pond. It had several large frogs around 8 feet tall!

Ice skating on the Frog Pond (a tradition we did not join).

The highlight of the evening was stopping at South Station to see the annual model train display.

Can you see Yoda in the smoke stack? He's a little out of focus (due to the plexiglass), but he's there!

And Aiden didn't wear this in town, but he made a great "First Night" crown at playgroup on Friday that he was very proud of!

Happy New Year from our family to yours!

We were, happily, stroller-free! Not that it will last long... :-)
